As Above, So Below

How Astrology Reflects Life

The phrase "as above, so below" is one of the oldest and most powerful ideas in astrology. It’s not that the planets cause things to happen, but rather that the movement of the planets lines up with events, emotions, and shifts we go through in life. They reflect the same energy—like a cosmic mirror.

Your birth chart, for example, is a snapshot of the sky the moment you were born. It tells the story of your potential—your personality, your challenges, your strengths. But that chart isn’t frozen in time. The planets keep moving, and when they make connections (called transits) to the planets in your birth chart, they tend to trigger meaningful changes or experiences.

Say Saturn is moving across the sky and lines up with your natal Moon. You might find yourself dealing with emotional pressure, needing stronger boundaries, or facing something serious at home or with family. That’s Saturn's energy—structure, responsibility, sometimes even restriction—playing out in your personal life in a way that fits with what’s already in your chart. The sky reflects what your soul is ready to go through.

There’s another layer to this called progressions, which show how you grow and evolve over time, internally. Progressions are more subtle than transits—they’re about shifts in your inner world, how your emotions, goals, or identity naturally develop. If your progressed Moon changes signs, for instance, you might start to feel drawn to new things or relate to the world in a different emotional way. When the progressed Sun meets Venus, you might open up to love, creativity, or even a new sense of self-worth. These changes often match up with what's happening in your external life too—again, “as above, so below.”

When it comes to relationships, astrology offers a whole other layer of insight. Synastry is the comparison of two birth charts to see how people connect. If your Venus (which rules love and affection) lines up with someone’s Mars (which represents desire and drive), there’s likely chemistry. If their Saturn clashes with your Sun, you might feel limited or challenged by them, or sense that there's something serious or karmic about the connection.

These aspects don’t make a relationship happen or not—but they do highlight the energy between two people. They show where things might flow easily and where you might need to do more work. Just like with individual transits, the relationship dynamics show up in both the sky and in real life.

What’s powerful about astrology is that it helps you understand timing. When you know what kind of energy is present—whether it’s about growth, letting go, starting fresh, or facing something tough—you can make more conscious choices. The planets reflect where your energy is focused, where you’re being pushed to grow, or where opportunities might show up.

So when we say "as above, so below," we're really talking about connection. The outer world and inner world are moving together. The sky doesn’t dictate your path—but it reflects your story in a beautiful, deeply symbolic way . You’re not predicting the future—you’re syncing up with it.

Astrocartography: Finding Yourself Through Place

Astrocartography is a branch of astrology that maps out how different places around the world affect you, based on your birth chart. The idea is that at the time of your birth, the planets were rising, setting, or at the top or bottom of the sky in different locations—not just where you were born. Astrocartography shows you where each planet holds extra influence for you, depending on the geography.

For example, a Sun line might bring more confidence, energy, and visibility. A Venus line could attract love, beauty, creativity, or financial flow. A Saturn line might bring focus and responsibility, but also challenges. It’s not about good or bad places, but about what kind of experience you’re likely to have, and how that matches your current path.

Some people feel instantly energised in certain locations, while others find that a move brings unexpected inner growth—or tension. You can also see how these planetary lines affect your relationships, especially if both you and someone else share strong lines running through the same place.

Even travelling to, working in, or connecting with people from a certain region can activate a line’s energy. Astrocartography is a useful way to understand why certain places seem to hold meaning, change you, or feel like home.
